Seeing rises but can't math the hatch? Perhaps you’re actually seeing trout tails where the rising trout are eating emerger flies that are just below the surface. Emergers are in between Nymph and Dry Fly stage and very venerable to trout. One of our favorite ways to fish emergers is to tie one about 18" behind the dry fly. Watch your dry fly as an indicator for the trout taking the emerger.
